RED DATSUN is an American Indie Rock/Alternative band, formed in and based out of New York City. Their website charismatically explains that they “write songs about breaking furniture” and “are part of a complete breakfast.” The band features members David Miller, Eric T.S. Gonzales, Masaki “Mas” Yamagata, David Canton, and Amanda Tafuro. RED DATSUN is the product of lives spent in suede cubicles, shadowy bars, ambient trains, and throttled cars. Young lives rooted in the sound of the Rock “N” Roll the way the kids used to do it and the way it used to and should still be done: analog, dirty, unfastidious. Naming such bands as The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Clash, The Specials, XTC, Wire, Pixies, and Pavement among their strongest sources of inspiration and influence, RED DATSUN has developed a Neo/Retro Rock “N” Roll sound synthesized from 1970-80’s Roots, Rock, Punk, and Post-punk elements. Consequently, RED DATSUN rocks the downpour. David “Dave” Miller gets torrential on the mic. Lyrically, it’s like joy and pain. That is to say, sunshine getting donkey-punched by rain. Guitarist David “Dave” Canton AKA Al Bondigas, Jr. is a one-time member, associate, former associate, and/or graduated fellow from acts such as P.I.C., Electro-lux (New Brunswick, NJ,) Broken Atlantic, Shiva Copal, blacksonny, and The Jack Lords. His influences include haircuts, flan, and cheap magazines... Keyboardist Eric T.S. Gonzales AKA RICE AKA Gonz, The Man Behind The Junk, of New Jersey, brings his years of valuable industry experience and keyboard chops to the table. On keys with HipHopFunkMamboSka legends P.I.C., Gonzales has seen his fair share of NYC musicians, bands, and venues come and go while P.I.C. remains vital, relevant, and rocking steady after all these years. G*d save Gonz’s junk. In the rhythm section, DJ Mas locks it in on bass guitar, with chops earned from time in bands such as The Chantey Hook and P.I.C., while drummer Amanda Tafuro packs the punch with dirty, hard-hitting beats that remind you that “yes, Rock “N” Roll IS and always will be sexy!

Experience the fury—get to NYC and witness a RED DATSUN party for yourself. For those interested (which should, arguably, be EVERYONE EVER EXISTING and/or reading this!,) oddly enough, RED DATSUN’s next upcoming scheduled show is happening this Friday, March 13, 2026 at 5:30pm at The Parkside Lounge, 312 East Houston Street, New York City, NY 10002. Along with RED DATSUN, SWOLL, and blacksonny will, also, be appearing on the bill; yes, that’s three bands for the low, low, one-time/night-only price of just $10.00 admission fee! We strongly suggest that you go out to The Parkside Lounge or, otherwise, “survey says”… you may be a very, very lame person! Also, for those interested in a similarlly-minded good time and who may either be currently living in Tokyo, Japan and/or has the finances to travel there, Sulu & Excelsior (AKA Steve “Sulu” Mallorca & DJ Mas just for this show) will be doing a special Duo Set at Apt. Music Bar & Studio with Hiro-a-key AKA Nenashi, whom was previously featured on “Find Another” from Sulu & Excelsior’s 2019 sophomore album, The AntiMatter Suite on Thursday, March 26, 2026. The night’s “Tokyo Meets NYC” musical accompaniment will, also, boast DJ sets from DJ Mas and Dome AKA Masala Finger, as well. This will additionally serve as a business trip for Mallorca & DJ Mas, who are currently working on finishing up the necessary parts and pieces of a documentary film centered around chronicling the life, times, and musical accomplishments of Asian-American musician and keyboardist Philip Woo (Roy Ayres Ubiquity, Patti Labelle, MAZE Featuring Frankie Beverly, Ashford & Simpson, countless modern Hip-Hop/Rap samples) called Play It In Woo, that should see a wide release within the next couple years. If interested, you can still support the Play It In Woo GoFundMe campaign. Show flyers for both of the aforementioned RED DATSUN and Sulu & Excelsior dates are attached down below the break!
